How Re.connect works

Tailored specifically to teachers, Re.connect is an integrative approach to wellbeing. We know first-hand that teachers don't have spare time in the day to focus on their wellbeing, and whilst some time dedicated to working on re.connecting with yourself is an essential part of any wellbeing endeavour, at Re.connect we believe that wellbeing is what you do daily. To this end, most of our coaching is designed to be integrated into a normal educational working day - this is the only way change can be sustained.

The key to releasing stress, anxiety and tension is working with the whole human: the body as well as the mind. The body, as the foundation of our (well)being, is always where we should begin. Unfortunately, it is the body which is often neglected and this is why counselling and other talk therapies often don't work*.

This is why Re.connect presents four spheres of wellbeing (and why we like to begin with Physical Wellbeing).

My story.

As a teacher of nearly twenty years, I had been guilty of not looking after my own wellbeing.

As someone who has always dabbled in various forms of wellness, I took my wellbeing for granted, seeing it as somewhat given. I believe this is what allowed the stress followed by burnout to steal up on me. Little by little, bit by bit – marking during lunch times; extra lesson prep in the evenings; weekends used to complete data summaries. Then factor in additional stresses in my personal life.

All of this came at a cost.

It was squeezing out the time spent on myself and my own wellbeing. And, you can probably guess what happened next...

Eventually, I crashed.

Over time, digging deeply into my own wellbeing resources, and with further research, studying and practise with specialist teachers, I was able to slowly get back to a level at which I could function again in the world.

With formal training in qigong breath and body work, Tai Chi, Radical Undoing breath and body work, massage, anatomy and physiology, health education, nutrition, mindfulness, hypnosis, NLP, and BSc in Human biology and psychology, I want to offer my experience to you. I've done the hard work so you don't have to.

Counselling and other talk therapies often don't work

In fact, talking about stressful, anxiety-loaded experiences can even increase levels of stress and anxiety.

So what can we do?

The key to releasing stress, anxiety and tension is working with the body, as the foundation of our being. Once we have reconnected with the body, we can add in emotional, cognitive and social aspects of wellbeing, to deepen our healing.

Wellbeing 4 Teachers is the remedy.

Tailored specifically to teachers, Wellbeing 4 Teachers is an integrated approach to wellbeing, drawing on and incorporating Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, The Human Givens Model, NLP, Qigong, Polyvagal Theory, and body-oriented or somatic therapy.

What is Wellbeing 4 Teachers?

Physical Wellbeing: getting in touch with your body through exercises that boost your feeling of physical comfort, safety, security and health, in your environment

Emotional Wellbeing: exercises to boost emotional confidence, autonomy, self-reliance and influence.

Cognitive Wellbeing: exercises to tap into how we think about things, and how we problem solve (when our concepts and ideas become too rigid – our maps no longer reflect the world - it can cause problems and suffering).

Social Wellbeing: exercises to boost social relationships; empathy, and working collaboratively

We work with Teachers and other educational professionals, taking them from surviving to thriving, by alleviating self-doubt, stress, tension, anxiety and fear, and (re)awakening a zest for life and passion for education. To help clarify and focus our practices we have broken wellbeing down into the following:
